Our hip hop classes run on Mondays 7.30pm (open) and Thursdays at 6.30pm for beginners

Initially a street dance from America, Hip Hop has taken the world by storm; almost every successful music artist has a video with some Hip Hop in somewhere!

The classes are choreography and technique based. The choreographic sequences taught are movement suggestions and guidelines for the individuals to follow and apply to their own bodies. The emphasis in these classes is focused on working with musicality, and encouraging the dancers to add their own personal style, flavour, doing what feels good. This class is for total beginners, no experience necessary. The teaching of repertoire will be broken down into simple, manageable movements that anyone can master.

** The tutor for this course acknowledges the deep socio-political and personal roots of hip-hop, acknowledging the lineage from the Black and Latino communities that created Hip Hop culture. The term “Hip Hop” alludes to an entire culture of historical lineage, whereas ‘Open Style Choreography’ suggests blends of multiple genres of dance.

When you select a class you wish to join, you will be asked to create a Viva Dance account if you are new to Viva Dance. You can join in week 1 or 2 of this course as a casual attendee, but you must book and prepay online for any class/course you wish to attend. There are options for booking a casual class or the full course. You only need to book once if you have booked the full course but you need to check in in to the class each week.
