Our contemporary classes run on Tuesdays at 8.30pm
Contemporary Dance encompasses a wide variety of styles that invite the dancer to experience different sensations and emotions. In these classes we will combine the techniques of ‘Flying Low’ and ‘Release’ as well as oriental disciplines like Yoga to explore body movement in all its multiple possibilities.
Flying Low is a technique that focuses on using articulation and the core in floorwork, helping to improve overall physical perception. This technique employs the laws of physics: cohesion and expansion, exploring new ways to connect with the body. It develops spinal mobility, coordination, peripheral vision, core strength and energy.
Release technique is a series of principles and methods of physical training that have been applied to contemporary dance. These principals emphasise letting go of muscular tension when moving. This helps to develop an awareness of body alignment, breathing, joint articulation and weight distribution. The idea is to use energy and anatomy together so that movements require minimal effort.
