To finish off the dancing year in style on Thursday evenings we are running a series of 2-hour mini bootcamps in different Latin styles: Merengue, Body Movement, Salsa on 2, and Cha Cha Cha. Each class will cover the basics in the first hour and move on to more advanced steps and combos in the second hour. Come and join in the fun!
First up MERENGUE! The ‘easiest’ of all the Latin partner dances, merengue is often underestimated, but this simple 2-step dance provides the opportunity to work on the basic Latin styling required in all Latin dances and to learn complex turn patterns and knots. It can be playful and fast or slow and sensual depending on the lead and the easy footwork allows dancers to build up complexity in the arms as well as the lead and follow that are much more difficult to incorporate in
Week 2 features BODY MOVEMENT with Anabela: Have you got all the moves but not enough of the flavour? Learn how to inject the right sabor into your basic step. Anabela will break down how to achieve smooth Latin body movement for Merengue, Salsa & Bachata across this two hour workshop. You will leave with exercises to take away, the rest is up to you…
Week 3: SALSA on 2 – Also known as New York style and originally popularised by the ‘Mambo King’ Mr Eddie Torres, Salsa On2 has become the preferred style for many of the world’s top dancers. The smoothness and flow of the steps and the ability to really let your musicality shine are some of the aspects of On2 that people love.
Week 4: CHA CHA CHA – Originally from Cuba and now popular all over the world, this cool, sophisticated yet funky dance is a must for anyone’s Latin repertoire. This class will introduce you to the basic steps and on 2 timing that gives Cha Cha it’s distinctive and infectious flavour. From there we will move on to simple, useable turn patterns to take to the dance floor as well as introducing the ‘shine’ element and the fun that can be had with this style of dance.
